Uganda Maritime Police hosts Busitema University Team

Maritime Police of Uganda at Kigo today Wednesday, July 26, 2023, hosted the Busitema University Maritime Team led by the Vice Chancellor Prof, Paul Waako, University Top Management Team, Maritime Director Prof. Waiswa Wilson Mwanja, and the Maritime Technical Team. The team was received by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) - Maritime SSP Wagubi, SSP - Operations for Kigo areas SSP Tabu, and other Police Officers. SSP Wagubi informed the team that Maritime Directorate started in 1996 under the office of the Inspector General of Police, and later grew into a full Directorate with coverage of all the water bodies in Uganda. The team agreed to partner in a number of areas including: Technical skilling, Boat repair and access to spare parts, training and servicing of the boats and other marine equipment, marine data management and datasets, search and rescue techniques, navigation and marine engineering, boat construction, and maritime communication. Prof. Waako emphasized the role of Maritime Law and its relevance to the training of marine professionals because it is important to deal with the legal issues in maritime practice.
