MPs commend Busitema's research output, acknowledging its significant contribution to knowledge.

The Parliament of Uganda’s Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) led by the Deputy Chairperson, Hon. Dr. Asiimwe Florence Akiiki on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, visited the University in their routine oversight role to monitor the implementation and utilisation of research and innovation funds the government of Uganda appropriated. The team has appreciated the level of research programs at Busitema University and how the University has used funding given for research and innovations, and the funds for the Presidential Scientific Initiative on Epidemics. The team called for increased networking between the University and Parliament.
Other Members of the Committee were; Hon. Esther Mbayo, Hon. Betty Engola, Hon. Alex Niyonsha, Hon. Gorreth Namugga, Hon. Isaac Katenya, Hon. Boniface Okot, Hon. PolyCarp Ogwari, and Hon. Ssasaga Isaiah.
In his welcome remarks, the Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Elly Sabiiti appreciated the government's support towards the development of Busitema and emphasised the University’s commitment to promoting STI and producing highly skilled science professionals.
The Director of Graduate Studies Research and Innovations, Prof. Samson Rwahwire, while presenting to the committee, highlighted that the research and innovation ecosystem at Busitema was multidisciplinary. He noted that the different research groups at the University were working closely with communities to advance research initiatives. He reported that with initial funding received, high-tech prototypes had been generated and were ready for commercialization.
He said that the only challenge that remained was limited funding which affects commercialization. Prof. Rwahwire called on the legislators to support the University by increasing funding in areas of research and infrastructural development.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Science and Innovation, the Hon. Dr. Asiimwe thanked Busitema for being accountable and together with other members of the committee pledged to advocate for more funding for research and innovation.
The team was taken on a tour of the University infrastructure funded by the government which included the plastic road, Juice Processing Line, Mechanical workshop, and Ginnery among others.
