On Thursday, July 28, 2023, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Waako together with Busitema University Top Management and a team of Maritime Institute technical staff visited Fisheries Training Institute - Entebbe to discuss the prospects of team-teaching maritime courses. During the visit Prof. Paul Waako observed that Uganda is a very rich country with a lot of resources, however, these resources are distributed around the country in small silos with little knowledge of their existence. He noted that the country has the capacity to do many things only if we can synchronize and use these resources well. Prof. Waako emphasized the need for partnerships to deliver education by creating a 'community of learning' at FTI. He further noted the increasing need for water transport increasing the need to grow human capacity which has also been pactuated by safety issues and the growing number of water vessels to manage. In turn, the FTI Principal Mr. Ofwono Willy Osinde welcomed the Busitema Team and in his remarks concurred with the Vice Chancellor that the Institute lacked capacity, especially in building better, safer, commercial boats; and commercial fish farming. The Principal noted that FTI is constructing a water rescue facility that students and students at Busitema would benefit from while FTI shall tap into the expertise at Busitema to build its staff capacity. The team agreed to sign an MoU to foster this partnership
